Footnotes

  1. Nehemiah 3:8 The Hebrew verb azav usually means abandon. The part of Jerusalem on the Western Hill, which had been enclosed by the Broad Wall, was not included in the reconstruction. If we take azav in the rare meaning rebuild, and we translate they rebuilt Jerusalem as far as the Broad Wall, this would not change the meaning, since it would mean that they rebuilt up to, but not including, the Broad Wall.
